These include competing interests of older generations who remember WWII and their conflict in ethical understanding of those who grew up in the “free love” generation of the late 1960s. Then, we skip ahead to the advent of the Internet and its huge impact on politics, news, and the ability of individuals to publicly sometimes take unethical sides. Are the speakers in this TED Talk correct? Is America more divided than ever before? Explain Tip: Consider some of the following: What are the competing variables that keep not just governmental partisanship skewed (Democrats and Republicans) but seem to have blocked the healing ethical doors to ethical compromise? Is there really fake news in which journalists have compromised their ethical constructs to give the underlying portrayal of negative racial undertones in our police departments? Could the divisions talked about in this TED Talk relate to the mass shootings in our schools or the seemingly increase of minority deaths by police officers? Are there other possible variables that come to mind? Are there one or more ethical theories that you can relate to the creation of a divided America? Explain Tip: Consider some of the following: Bandura (2002) believed that self-regulating behavior “… can be turned off, leading to inhumane acts, through cognitive restructuring via several different mechanisms” (as cited by Pollock, 2019, p. 91). A few of these mechanisms are: “Moral Justification”, in which the ends would justify the means or perhaps the “Displacement of Responsibility”, in which the person is removed as a free-thinking agent of their own actions to be able to deny any wrongdoing (Pollock, 2019). Do you believe that we have become a nation of moral justifiers and deniers of responsibility and accountability for our actions? Is this an ethical cultural conflict or does our political leadership have some responsibility for this division that our TED Talk speakers address? Explain Given your understanding of ethical theories, give possible ways to heal or at least create compromise in a divided nation. Your paper should have the following: an APA-formatted cover page, introduction, main body, conclusion, and reference page. It should be three to four pages long, not including the cover or reference pages. You should have at least 3 academic resources.
